A rather embarrassing interview with the head of the CRTC regarding the internet shows he just doesn't get it.
There is no understanding of the technology and how it works and how everyone in Canada is being victimized by the telephone and cable industry when it comes to internet distribution.
The phone and cable companies should only be allowed to distribute the internet, not control it in any way.
Independent companies should be able to buy uncontrolled access to the network because the telephone and cable company own the lines into Canadian homes, the telephone part of which was largely paid for by taxpayers before the telcos were given exclusive control over them.
Re-wiring the country with fibre to the home will cost billions.
This following a telco/cable sponsored study that says we have the best internet service in the world when the Harvard and other studies shows we're somewhere around number 30 or so, way below countries such as South Korea and Japan.
Corporate greed, plain and simple and the CRTC through it's recent "decisions," clearly shows it is in the pocket of the big telcos and cable companies.
