The Team preceded Allan leaving CHUM by 4 years. May 7th. 2001. The format switch to Sports/Talk was part of his legacy. As was the return to music 1.5 years later after lots of promises made to the staff that no format change was imminent.
And in Vancouver with 1040's recent power increase, with PPM in place to measure male tuning where BBM was abysmal, and where a lot of sports take place during afternoon drive-time and not at 8 or 9 at night, CFUN may never be #1, but they'll make more money than they're making now. Even if they can't mention the 'O' word. The best Rogers can do in the market is report the results on WX without breaking format, so there's lots of opportunity for other stations to do veiled analysis after the fact.
Sounds like a pretty smart move to me.
