I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Patty Duke Show (Season One) was released on DVD today. There are some obscure TV releases coming up as well - for example, The Barabara Stanwyck Show (aka The Barbara Stanwyck Theatre), which was done a few years before The Big Valley. Why don't they show these on the specialty channels like TVLand or DejaView (are either of these still around?) - so many old shows that aren't put into rotation - like Burke's Law.

Just make sure you get the Frightenstein DVDs from "Critical Mass". They bought the rights to the series a few years ago and are releasing them as they can get the funds together to license the music on the Woilfman segments. Unfortunately, thanks to Michael Jackson's publishing company, the theme music (from Sly and the family stone) is unaffordable and since it plays under Billy Van's voice, these segments had to be redone with the aid of some clever music and a very good imitator. But otherwise, the shows available are complete and unedited. There are some bargain-bin versions of Frightenstein out there that are 30 minute shows with a laugh track and no music -- ghastly! As with Frightenstein, BONANZA has been out on dollar discs but with all the original music replaced (with horrible sounding synthesizer stuff)..this despite the fact that Livingston and Evans still get a credit. The box set of 34 episodes I found in WalMart for $5 replaces the theme but retains the orchestral background music and bridges. Bonanza is now coming out on real discs, by the way. First thing I noticed on that site was a rumour about "When Things Were Rotten" coming out next year.

One show I'd like to be able to get is the complete "Dad's Army". It was released on DVD in Britain last year but hasn't shown up here as far as I know.

If you order Dad's Army from the UK, it's fairly simple to hack most DVD players to make them region free. For that matter, region-free players are under $50 in some places. I ordered the complete Hancock's Half Hour set last year for about GBP20 and they play just fine on my Philips player.

Have ordered tons of British DVD's. Just watching Season 2 of "Within these walls" right now. The DVD's are easy to hack, but most computers CD palyers are region free anyway, so you can watch pretty much anything on them. And by the time you rip the video to your iPod or Blackberry, regions don't matter anymore .

What if we discover "My Mother, The Car" isn't nearly as bad as we all thought at the time? The other day I was forced to endure "According to Jim" and "My Name Is Urrrp" while in a automobile repair shop waiting room, and what can I tell you .. aaaaaak! (Re "He and She"..loved her, still can't stand him.)

Would love to those two shows on DVD or on one of the speciality channels. I remember when CKVR ran "My Mother, the Car" during its Classic TV period. Horrible prints with everything brown. A few others...."Then Came Bronson"....."Radisson"....Hell, I'd even to like to see the odd episode of "The Trouble with Tracy".
