Virgin Radio Adds New DJ Toronto's Virgin Radio is welcoming multi-platinum superstar Akon to its team of jocks. Akon joins the station's star-studded radio team, including Ryan Seacrest, Mad Dog and Billie, Taylor and Biggs and Hollywood gossip blogger, Perez Hilton. Starting Halloween night at 11:59pm, programmers describe, Akon will spin the top music in the world into the hottest 99 minute mix of non-stop high-voltage hits. From Gaga to Guetta; from Madonna to Rihanna - Akon's Hitlab will be Toronto's "destination" for Saturday night fun and dance. Yeah..and one less warm body in the chair that can relate to the market. Give me a personal break!

In reality you'd be hard pressed to find any station with live bodies on a Saturday night. Virgin is one of them, with the very talented Lydia Stratus hosting earlier in the evening. But even a silverback like me can understand that, as the clubs are letting out, you might want a dance-groove to keep things going for your young audience. ...You could have one of your own producers do a "supermix" - as they do both on Virgin and EZ Rock. But if an icon like Akon can do one for you - why NOT?

That is the only show I listen to on Virgin, no one in this market can work the phones like Lydia and apparently the station is making a ton of cash on sponsorships for the show. Better idea then selling a 3K live to air that will go away in 3 weeks.

I'll agree. The house party is the ONLY reason I listen to Virgin. Lydia does an amazing job and i'm sure no matter where he is Punch is listening in too!!!!!
