Beyond better salaries, more staff, more support from management, more time to do the news - what would help you do a better job at covering local news? Use your imagination - the sky is the limit. To get the ball rolling, is there a software application that isn't developed yet that could help you? What would it do? Is there a technical solution that could be better crafted or invented? What would it do?

While not directly applicable to your request, I'd be listening to the series on Radio One's Sunday Edition entitled News 2.0. First part was last week and it's superb.

There are so many answers to this question. But because one of my jobs is coming up with the solutions, I'm not giving them out for free other than those already contributed. Technology is key but so is trained personnel who also have the talent to deliver the goods. Mentoring always has been high on my list, stints at two colleges as well as talent development in-house. Problem is, many of those teaching have not been in the business for years or have ventured inside a real radio or tv station recently. You can propose all the solutions that you want but if the corpse are not willing to pay for them, what you see and hear and read is what you get.
