I'm trying to find one for my station but can't find much that's very compelling. The iconic Action News theme on WPVI was remembered in an earlier post. What else is out there? Who produces it? For example, I asked about the 680 News theme, but no one at Rogers could remember where they got it.

I can dig out the old National News theme, which was on a Chappell 78. Hey..here's a format nobody's ever used..Classic News!

I'd prefer the Beeps and Boops from the 70's, followed by Max Ferguson's voice. And hey! It's Peter Kent on the really goofy looking set! All I'd need to complete my nostalgia trip would be my dad smoking a Player's and the sound of my mother's sewing machine working in the next room.

I have a tape I should pass on to Dale Patterson of CBC radio news goofs and breakups from the 70s and 80s. Lots of beeps and boops. Also a really neat ten minute chunk of Morningside in which Henry Morgan tells the CBC to stuff it.

If Ken ever said it, he'll have made sure to pronounce it correctly as well. Nothing by him on this reel. Lots of Bruce Rogers, John O'Leary breaking up, Rex Loring choking (you online, Elaine?), Finstad, Cameron and general silliness, primarily from The World at Six. I once had a tape of Allan McFee going nuts over the name of the town Chittagong but somebody swiped it from my office.

Go to southernmedia-nmsa.com - they have a huge database of newscast theme music used throughout the United States over the years, including WPVI's Action News theme which at one time was used by many other stations. There's a few Canadian stations listed too, in cases where they used a theme also used in the U.S. Some of the more notable ones include Pride Inside, which was used by CHCH in the late 80s/early 90s, and the Tar Sequence from Cool Hand Luke, which was used on CFCF in Montreal as well as numerous ABC O&Os in the 70s.

I worked at a station that had a TM Century library that either had the exact piece, or something very similar to the stinger that 680 runs under the call letters each half hour. I never came across the music that runs under the headlines, so I assume that came from somewhere else. Most of the big stations in the U.S. use this right now. http://www.juggernautplus.com/
