Shipmates,
There sure is some excitement going around about the next Talbot reunion (2002). It is very important that the excitement is controlled to where it does not impede the hard work and planning of the reunion team.
During the Daytona reunion, there were volunteers who formed teams to take the next reunion to their respective cities being, Tampa, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, or Las Vegas. Las Vegas had the most votes. There was 23 shipmates who attended the meeting and voted on the perspective sites. Since the reunion there have been several shipmates who have found out about the reunion or Skivvywaver site and now are on the active roster. They also had their input on the next location for the reunion.
There was a official poll taken from all former Talbot sailors that are on our mailing list (135) to give us the greatest possibility to have the largest group attend the next reunion. We achieved a 73% participation in the vote. Here is a link to the results of that poll. http://egowan.tripod.com/poll.html
After communication with OS3 Michael Wade he conceded the Las Vegas site to Jacksonville with his full support. This was done in agreement that it is most important for the second reunion to build our numbers. We know that not everyone will be able to attend every reunion held, therefore it only makes good sense to build on the excitement we all share after Daytona and enlarge our list of participants. The larger the group the better our chances to continue reunions with sizable groups in the future.
The Jacksonville team is busy checking sites, and prices as well as the important things like off season rates, tours available, and other events that may be scheduled. It takes months to plan a successful event, therefore the plans are in full progress for Jacksonville. When the dates , rates, and location are confirmed a posting will be placed on the website as well as emailed to everyone on the mailing list.
The Daytona participants appointed MSC Ed Gowan as the leader of this association group. The reunion committees were set up with the understanding that all plans and information would flow through Ed before we finalize. This is more of a comparison of lessons learned then anything else. Keep the excitement going and look forward to a Fantastic reunion in the Jacksonville area. The Jacksonville team has promised me the biggest show ever.
ED Gowan
