OK everybody, plain and simple, here's where I come from on this............
On a stage, and in a studio, throughout 40 years, Santana music has had memorable moments.
On a stage, and in a studio, throughout 40 years, Santana music has had forgettable moments.
The moral to this story: Carlos Santana is human. Let's not make the dude out to be anything more or less than that. It's gotta start and end THERE.
Just like you, just like me, he gets up and goes to work 'cause he has a job. He does it well, and the main difference is, our performance at work doesn't get as much scrutiny as his. And what happens when anyone's job is subject to THAT much scrutiny?....the risk of getting blown out of proportion rises.
If we love a song or a CD, great!...enjoy it without anointing Carlos with sainthood. If we don't like a song or a CD, fine!.....it's just music that doesn't appeal to you, it's not armaggedon.
I suggest a deep breath, couple steps back, and always keep who and what Carlos Santana is in perspective. From Ghandi, to Mandela, to Carlos, to you, to me....no one is bigger, smaller, better, or worse, than the sum of their human parts.
(And it would do this planet a world of good if more governments felt this way.)
