Hello all, I have been a frequent visitor to Moonflower, and have enjoyed all the posts, and have never posted anything myself til now. The only reason I have not posted anything is because I'm usually not that type of person, but this post has me so fired up, I had to say something.
Carlos Santana is part of the machine now, part of a machine in a time of terrible music. He has to pay the bills like we all do, his people have to pay the bills like we all do, so it is his people who make most of these decisions for him (J-Lo, Baby Bash, etc.). I assure you Carlos does not have any idea who Baby Bash is or was, but when you surround yourself by people telling you, "This is hot! This is hot!", followed by a fat paycheck, why should he argue in this economy.
If Carlos truly wanted to play what he wanted to play, I can also assure you his concerts would no longer entail Black Magic Woman for the umpteenth time. He does it, because like most entertainers, he is doing his best to be a crowd pleaser.
For the most part Jeff is stating the obvious, and we all see it, maybe just a little afraid to admit, that times have changed, and the more we buy into it, the more we're going to get it.
You cannot blame Carlos for being the right person at the right time, the Latino poster child, but he is still a human being who has all the same problems we do, has to pay the bills, makes silly mistakes in life and career, and stand behind his children. (And don't even get me started on Salvador and that boy's music! Torture!)
Carlos' spirit died for me anyway back in the late seventies, I have not been a fan of anything since. Once again, it's not his fault, it's just music has always been changing.
