Jeff -
I just want to say, and as a musician myself, that I agree with you 100%. One of the most disappointing purchases I've made lately is Santana's Hymns for Peace DVD -- which touts Chick Corea, John McLaughlin on the packaging. I was very excited thinking that Carlos' was [finally] reaching back into his fire in his soul and would play like he did circa Welcome.
I put on the DVD only to hear Chick on one song (barely), McLaughlin on another, but the majority of it devoted to sing-a-long nonsense with some pretty unimaginative playing (you know, same tired runs). I feel like I was intentionally ripped off and I wish that I could return it.
I have the utmost respect for former, fellow band like Michael Shrieve, who is still pursuing his passions and musical journey, rather than selling out.
In the meantime, I'll stick to listening to Carlos' 1970-74 years.
