Victor,
Although I wake up to a smooth jazz station every morning, I had never heard this gentleman's music, had heard the name though. This morning the disk jockeys came back after a three day weekend, Wayman Tisdale's passing was the topic. They played one of his tunes, a cover of an Earth Wind and Fire hit. I was impressed about the uniqueness of his music, he carried the entire melody throughout with his bass. You know that the bass is not a melody instrument nor the main soloing instrument. It made me think of another great bass player, different genre, The Who's John Alec Entwistle. When you are not paying attention and your mind wanders off, then you catch him playing the bass as a lead guitar. My condolences to all Wayman Tisdale's fans.
