I got carried away writing about Borboletta early this morning that I was late for work. Carlos did not play much guitar on Welcome, so he probably caught up in Borboletta. To my ears it sounds like he tried something different in each song. Guitar effects existed back then, but not as the vast quantity that we have today. Carlos' guitar for the most sounds sounds very clean, although I love the crunch on "Give and Take." On most songs it sounds like it is just Carlos, guitar, amp and his trademark sustain. (I haven't checked in a while, but does he still mark with an x the spot that will give him the best feedback in front of the amp?)
I recall back in '76 my best friend had just bought a Fiat RX7. We took a Sunday drive down to Tijuana. Borboletta was the only cassette that we had. Needless to say, we played it all day long. My friend wasn't into serious music, he was more into top forty and soul music. He made a comment about Borboletta will never sound old or dated. At the same time I wonder if the suits at Sony ever listen to the music in their catalog. It is time to think outside the box and rerelease this work of art and give it some promotion.
One last thing. I giggle when people complaint that Carlos is exposing himself too much or that his stuff gets promoted a lot. I recall a thrill back in '74 or '75 when something from Borboletta was played during Monday night football as they went to commercial.
