It is sad that Michael Jackson's legal, financial and personal problems eclipsed his musical genius in the last years of his life. Like Vincent Van Goh who is known for cutting off his ear as well as for his masterpieces, MIchael Jackson will be remembered in centuries to come for his outrageous and bizarre lifestyle as well as for his contributions to the music world. When he declared himself as the King of Pop, at first I thought that he was selfish and narcissist. Now looking back, he deserved that title, and showed respect to Elvis by not declaring himself the King of Rock.
People are sharing personal Michael Jackson experiences, here is mine. Sometime in the early to mid eighties I took my oldest son, who at the time was about four years old, for a Saturday morning walk along the Venice Beach boardwalk. This place is known for its weirdness. There is an area with a concrete stage that skateboarders use to practice tricks. The pit was full of people dancing to a Michael Jackson song, it is the one that turns into an African chant at the end. Everyone was dancing and having fun. I noticed that my son was mesmerized looking at one of the dancers. He was a man with short stubs for legs, he basically just had feet and no legs. He neither had arms, his hands just stuck out from his shoulders. This man didn't care, he was having the time of his life dancing to Michael Jackson. That is the joy and the contribution that Michael gave to this planet.
Someone wrote somewhere something like this: "May god have mercy on the souls of all of us imperfect men."
