I read it again today.
That was like the end of a four year Santana drought in the United States. As the article states, Santana was huge all over the world, selling tickets, topping the charts. Just read about all the places where Borboleta was a big success. In the US, at that time, being a Santana fan was a lonely business, not much was written about the band, and the only info came from album cover's liner notes. Then Santana while headlining and selling out abroad, in America was pulling less than a few thousand as a headliner, the band was mostly opening for Chicago, Clapton, and even The Beach Boys.
Man, it is amazing reading. So many names, so many stories. Hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. Peace
