Thanks Jose,
There was that definite Azteca connection, at least in the horn section, I can only think of Mel Martin but I'm sure there were more. I believe that both Pete and Coke recorded as a team with Boz Scaggs.
(The was a lot of cross pollination in this Flower Power world : Vocalist/percussionist Rico Reyes and some of the same horns played with Quicksilver Messenger Service before going over to Azteca. Then Coke and Pete plus some of the horn players recorded with Cold Bood, check out first Taste of Sin.)
Boz Scaggs' bass player was named David Brown. there were rumors that Dave Brown had left Santana. There was a black dude in the pictures of Boz' band, so it was assumed that it was Santana's Dave Brown, when in fact it was the keyboard player. This was in the days when the internet was not even a dream, and rock'n roll was a still taboo in the mainstream media.
It was reported that Carlos Santana suggested to Greg Rollie to play Larry Young style organ during the Caravanserai sessions. We should feel grateful that Greg agreed. Check out Joachim Jymm Young's organ intro on "Flames of Love." Was that a future glimpse into Caravanserai? Are these two Youngs related?
