Richard Kermode, in my opinion, was really one of the true unsung heros of the Santana line up, a standout musician, and a humble, decent man to those who knew him. This man didn't just play, he was inventive and creative, he did things on the keyboard that are still mind boggling today. His Hammond organ solo on Flame Sky is, to me, unequaled by anyone. I met him in 1974, he was at my home to prepare for a gig he played in my home town, when I moved to Oakland in 1975 I got to spend more time getting to know him. He, his sister, and I went to America's Bi Centennial celebration in S.F. I had a Fender Rhodes piano at the time, I took him (he didn't drive) to several auditions in my 1964 Impala, he made my piano wail and sing like I wished I could. One of the great thrills I remember was sitting down at his grand piano with him, at his home, and playing Yours Is The Light with him. I sat to the left running bass lines and chords while he soloed the notes. Talk about a rush! I still keep in touch with the guy who bought and still lives in Richard's house. A genuinely gifted musician, the Santana Sound of that era would not have been the same without him.
