Is there a melody in 'In The Light Of A New Day'? To me there is no more than a motif which is repeated over and over and over again. In my humble opinion this makes it one of the weakest 'songs' in the album. Together with 'Ah, Sweet Dancer' I've skipped it in my playlist.
