The Yamaha SG175B guitar Carlos played back in the day had PAF pickups but I think might have had a bit more output or a bit hotter. Plus it had a metal sustain block underneath the bridge. The PRS is pretty much standard in comparison.
Carlos always like to go through changes because he's always searching for the ultimate tone.
His playing has changed a bit from a more smooth Legato approach which doesn't really have anything to do with playing a different guitar because it's all in the fingers. His guitar/amp sound voicing did change a bit because he chose to play through a different speaker and he's also using Dumble amps in combination with his original mark one boogies. If he were to play his Yamaha SG he would sound the same way today because of his new approach on his playing which is a bit more staccato..
