Standing in front of the band live back in 1973, there wasn't that great of separation in the live sound since you had all these instrument going at the same time, including 2 keyboard players with a Hammond, Rhodes and synth, all taking up the frequency space on the EQ bands. The good thing was, you combine what these players were doing, even without good separation and the total became an unequaled level of energy and jaw dropping amazement.
A few things I remember as a tradition back then was the audience always jumping to their feet when Carlos played a solo, immediately sitting back down when he was done, getting on or feet again toward the end of a Mike Shrieve drum solo for a standing O, and laughing at Chepito's antics on stage.
