Posted by Motoxguy on 10/18/2002, 7:26 pm During my treatment I needed an MRI of my knee. For those that have never had an MRI - they cost about $1250.00. My office visits and treatment ran about another $1300. To make the long story short - my HMO decided that they were not going to cover the cost of the MRI because I used "an out of network provider" - even though Messina's office had properly referred me to the MRI place - meaning it should have been covered. Another story of the big company trying to screw the little guy. Dr. Messina's office had already paid the MRI place the 12 hunge - and he decided to just charge me $100 for the MRI. Basically, after covering the MRI costs for me - he treated me for a few hundred bucks instead of his normal charges. He could have easily said - pay us the full $1250 - it was certainly his right. Instead he felt that it was wrong for me to have to cover costs the insurance company should be paying. Talk about a generous human being. If you ever have need for an orthopedist - go to this guy. I can't remember a greater act of charity towards me by someone I hardly even know. Your Karma is on full-good Dr. Messina - thank you!!!

I just had to share this story. I broke my leg racing several months ago. I was referred to Dr. Messina at Carolina Sports Medicine. Dr. Messina took awesome care of me.
