: I have been dancing for nine years. Mainly
: ballet, but I also do jazz, hip hop, and
: modern. I am extremely interested in
: taking tango. Is there any information I
: need before I start? Are there any good
: studios around the Manteca-Stockton area?
: Thank You
:
: Dancers with ballet training are
: greatly valued by many experienced tango
: leaders. Classes are an excellent way to
: meet people who want to learn a variety of
: steps.
: Real tango is a sort of walking
: meditation. We think of meditation as
: something that is very personal and alone.
: Tango is very personal and alone yet at
: the same time we are sharing intimate
: feelings of grief, desire, fatigue and
: higher consciousness with another primate
: being whos name becomes unimportant. We
: don't surrender to each other, we each
: surrender to the space between us. The
: other persons momentum (love of life)
: enhances our own connection to life. (
: negative or positive ) That is why
: tanguers's can share tanguera's with out
: the usual issues of jealousy that burden
: most relationships. Each dancer is finding
: their own balance and meeting their own
: needs. One partner might be crying on the
: inside while the other is laughing on the
: outside. This range of possibility is
: beyond the cultural norm. Hence tango is a
: sanctuary for those who have a strong
: desire to live in the present. Good luck
: walking in Stockton.

: With-out surrender a full range of motion or emotion is not achievable. Many woman are concerned about appearing to be weak in a mans presence. As a result men have become weak and woman have become weaker. Learning tango means gathering the strength to allow your man to be a fool in the face of perfection. To a man women are already perfect. Every woman is the living embodiment of Shiva, mother and humankind rolled into one. Real women know their place in the universe. They are women. They are the followers.
To a leader, each follower represents another opportunity to jump into an abyss. A man must force himself to jump into the abyss of a womans arms because he has to. He is driven to transform his fear of existence into loving a woman. He is driven by the knowledge that if he fails he is dead, and if he succeeds he is dead anyway. This is the force that drives tango.
