At the risk of being pilloried, tarred and feathered and generally becoming persona non grata, I make the following observation.
I am absolutely delighted that the dame DID NOT appear at the Nelson Mandela concert. I don't think I could stand yet another performance of Goldfinger, Diamonds are forever etc. With very few exceptions, appearances by the dame seem to bring out the same old songs time after time after time. In fact a lot like the rehashes of CD's dressed up as some new release. I obviously exclude the releases by BGO who are doing a magnificent job ! These are long overdue but when I see the dame is performing at such and such a venue I always thing - here we go again ... those diamonds will be forever and forever. And if Goldfinger is performed ad infinitum, it WILL be the kiss of death! With over 500 different songs to her credit, couldn't we have something different ( and I don't mean the song Something either ! ). When the Living Tree was rolled out.... everyone went mad and why ? ... because it was new material.
Well I've said my piece for what it's worth. I dare say the tar is already being boiled, the feathers plucked and the rack is being tightened. Still I'm thick skinned and I can take it!
