I agree. The studio version of the Pet Shop Boys homage is noticeably quicker in tempo - and not quite as effective as the live performance. There is also some easily detectable edits in the studio version.
It is still wonderful, though. The last note is quintessential Bassey.
What is absolutely audible through each of the previews, however, is flawless production values in terms of sound and extraordinary sensitivity in terms of arrangements. For those of us who have followed DSB for decades, there are more than a few nods in the direction of the Harris/Greenslade era. Our girl sounds wonderful.
I could never have expected something like this even 15 years ago - it has all the hallmarks of the sort of Bassey album we have all been praying for.
