I don't post here very often, but I have just listened to The Performance and felt compelled to do so.
Though Shirley Bassey has rarely given a bad performance on record (for me her only slightly dodgy recordings were in the early 90s, particularly the awful Andrew Lloyd Webber album), this really shows what a good producer can do. Practically every second of it is just stunningly beautiful and let's all pray that another Bassey/Arnold collaboration might surface, although it's hard to see how this could be beaten ... except perhaps if she would grant permission for him to remix and rearrange her aborted 1987 Bond album ... What a delicious thought. I can hardly believe this is the voice of a 72 year old woman. Just astonishing.
