When Howard recently challenged us to name our top 2 favourite songs I committed with Ballad of the Sad Young Men and It’s Yourself but immediately so many more songs came to mind. I love those big ballads but then I also love those softer songs like What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life and those big brassy numbers like Lot Of Livin To Do; of course there are countless more to mention. All of which just typifies how incredibly talented our songstress is. As we look forward to a new album it will be interesting to see what’s included and of course I am sure that we all appreciate that our gal is not 29 anymore and she would be inhuman if the ageing process hadn’t had any impact on her vocal. So I am rather hoping for some lovely new softer/bluesy/jazzy songs.
Which brings me to Pennies From Heaven from the Muppet Show; I saw this on YouTube last evening - I have listened to it many times before - it is a beautiful song and her rendition is fabulous - those rich vocal tones - warm and soft - gives me chills! Whatever the new album delivers - Dame Shirley “Thank You For The Music”. Cheers Mike K
