While taking a cruise can be a very pleasant way to vacation, given all of the shipboard amenities and the diverse variety of shore excursions available--they are not very hospitable to those of us who smoke. My wife and I recently took a Holland-America cruise to Alaska. We are both off and on closet smokers--me with cigars and pipes and my wife cigarrettes of course. The ship had smoking restricted to certain onboard cocktail lounges and the casino and only cigarettes were allowed. Tobacco consumption in any other form was limited to the decks. AND I guess more than anything we were caught by surprise in not realising AK in Sept is cold wet and rainy. I did manage to make the best of it by trying to enjoy my wife's VS menthols (indoors) and also smoked an occasional cigar while ashore. Are there any other smoking experiences with the cruise ship scene? I would like to think that other cruise lines may be more accommodating, but probably not if the ships are regulated similar to the airlines.
