Hey everyone. (I'll clarify again that i'm a 22 year old male living at home right now...jsut got out of collee)
So, today, my mom gets home and calls up to me while I'm doing some work. She says that she just had something weird happen to her. I had a smoke earlier but distinctly remember flushing it. She said she found a Marlboro Menthol cigarette butt in the toilet. Uh oh! I was really about to freak out right there. I gave it a couple minutes and went down, really nervous. She asked if I was hungry yet. I poured myself some iced tea, and just went, "It was mine." "What??" I nodded towards the bathroom. "It was mine." "You've been smokin?" "Yeah." I told her it had been a couple years and that no one knew, and that it was something i kept to myself.
I was really ready for her to just scream at me. She asked me how much it was, and I said maybe like 5 a day (which is actually true right now, though it has been worse). She said well that's not going to kill you. She said she doesn't want me to but she doesn't want me at all to beat myself up about it. She can't stand that smoking was cool when she was a kid and now she's basically an axe murderer for it. She gave me some good hugs because she didn't want me to freak out about it and wants me to just keep it where I'm at (~5 a day). She also said not to flush it down the toilet because it can screw the plumbing up and sometimes they don't go all the way down. She said she wouldn't tell my dad and it was basically a "It's your own business kind of thing." I'm pretty sure she hates the fact that smokers get treated so horribly.
And that was basically it. I went back upstairs and here I am. I'm pretty relieved.
She just said she wants me to be free of mind and not make myself sick over something like this. She said she remembered how many times she had to sneak smokes out the window as a kid, and that her sister would get caught smokin' dope. She just said "I HOPE you're not doing that." And I told her I've never done it, which is 100% true. It's not something I'm into at all and makes me kind of uncomfortable to tell you the truth.
So I'll just say, especially if people in your life smoke, they'll probably be pretty receptive to you. I know I don't really care if people smoke, because I do it. Funny how things work out though.
