Your boyfriend is a Candy Ass. There is no rational explanation in the long run because closet smoking is irrational. Yet some males, especially those with a smoking fetish, i.e., they are eroticized by women smoking, are deathly afraid of being "found out" by those close to them. That is what makes it crazier because those are the people who, more often than not, "understand" and "accept" us for our shortcomings.
He has the best of two worlds right now as a closet smoker. He smokes with his smoking woman (you), and only selected others know about it. So he can be “dirty” yet appear “clean.” If you want to live like that, fine; if not, leave him or nudge him out into the open.
