I don't get it.
You were worried about the reaction of strangers?
People who do not know you do not care if you smoke, other than those that dislike anyone who smokes. It might feel liberating to smoke like that, but it is hardly coming out of the closet.

: Hi Guys,
:
: I am 50 years old and have been in the
: closet for more than half that time ....
: depending how you classify things. I
: recently got laid off and I said (pardon
: your ears) "DAMN IT I TRIED TO DO
: EVERYTHING RIGHT!"
: Oh well. I figured laid off, got to cut back
: and who gives a crap about what I am doing!
: So I traded in my shoes for some flip flops
: and I now smoke in public.
: What is surprising was how I was afraid of
: offending people. Instead, I give a
: sheepish look and some beautiful woman gives
: me a smile. I know,I know, I am God's gift
: to women, but that had never happenned
: before .... not for me as hard as it is to
: believe.
: I think there are others like me (or us)
: that would like to kick back and chill
: without being judged.
