Interesting observation you make that smoking does not have a taste. I guess everyone is different because I definitely notice the differences of taste between different brands, and especially the foul taste of stale cigarettes that have been left open for over a week. You say you have thrown your packs away, so maybe you have not had the misfortune to taste the staleness of old cigarettes--as tobacco is an organic product with a shelf-life.
However, I would say that smoking does get better over time as one is accustomed to all the harsh chemicals they add. I don't know if it is a "good" thing or not, but my taste buds don't lie.
Just try different brands, and you will find a few you like best. Taste is purely personal, so what I like might be different than what you like. However, stay away from the cheap generic brands though--everyone tells me they are awfull, and I did "bum" one off a classmate once which confirmed my friend's rumors.
