I said i needed to come out this week. and i did.
both my parents were in the living room the other night. i went in, sat down with them and explained that i was smoking now, and i wanted to quit hiding it and be up front with them and tell them myself.
there was the initial slight disappointment you all warned me about. but they basically said "We expected you might start. we wish you wouldn't smoke. but you're 18, and it's your choice."
it was nice to get it out in the open. but i didn't smoke in front of them. i figured that would be my next move when i was ready.
this morning, my dad asked for help lifting a table he's building up to his workbench. he had a cigarette in the ashtray, so i decided to pull out my pack and light up. we moved the table and worked on it. while we were out there, i smoked two cigarettes. he never said a word about smoking.
I guess the next thing will be smoking in front of mom. she seemed a little more disappointed about me smoking so that might be interesting. but since she smokes too, i assume she'll accept it.
