Hey Redsmoker I have lived the same struggle you are talking about and I wanted to share. I am a smoker and a Christian. I have quit many times for up to 3 years at a time. I recently started having the occasional cigarette which I know without a doubt will shortly become a full blown daily habit again. I believe that once your body has known the rewarding pleasure of smoking and experienced the pleasure of satisfying those intense cravings there is no turning back. Your body has adapted end of story. Even two years without a cigarette I can get an intense craving that passes, but I have to talk myself through that craving very carefully unless I am ready to start rewarding that craving with nicotine. At the current time and in a weakened state I have relented and decided to be submissive to these cravings and just enjoy the ride. That is the cycle for me. I will quit again, start having the occasional cigarette and then start nurturing a daily habit. It will repeat. Coming from a conservative Christian background I agree with most of what the other posts have said, but I would like to add this. God's commands are not just for us to avoid sin. They are to protect us from consequences. There are consequences that accompany our actions and that get us into trouble. There are long-term consequences that accompany a smoking habit. I have learned to quit and stay smoke free for very long periods of time. It is a mental muscle you learn that you can exercise. Yes I do enjoy smoking,in the closet from family, and I do enjoy the addiction, something you have already started to experience. It really is too late for you because of that. If I was you, I wouldn't tourment myself over it. Stop worrying about it, embrace the pleasure and the addiction for now as I am sure at this point you really want to. Email me if you like.
