I agree that the e-cigarette is a good way to go. I find it keeps the carvings at bay. A friend of mine hasn't smoked a regular cigarette since he got it. It's an easy transition, but I have trouble completely giving up tobacco -- I like it way too much. The health risks are minimal with e-cigarettes, and they're essentially odorless.
Some health advantages:
(1) contains steam, nicotine, and a trace of flavoring. Compare that to upwards of 4000 chemicals in cigarette tar, many of them carcinogenic. Nicotine is pretty harmless at the concentrations smokers take.
(2) No carbon monoxide to temporarily disable 15% of your red blood cells. You can exercise more easily, I find.
(3) Your lungs don't have much to worry about in keeping themselves clean, so they can work on the backlog of gunk you've left there over the years. It's gotta help them heal.
