There was a time when I smoked almost every day. Sometimes up to 15 cigarettes a day when I was traveling or living far away from my family and my old friends, but only one or two a day when I lived in my native town. I used to travel a lot and I bought my cigarettes mostly cartons in tax-free shops. Thus I can tell that the annual average was something like one pack a week. Today it's more like one pack a year.
The main reason to the decline of my smoking rate is that my favorite smoking places have gone non-smoking. There are other reasons as well, but I think this is the most significant one. I cannot think about smoking in the street - except far away from home. I would like to know if the same has happened to someone else.
