Just thinking about the days when I used to live at The Balboa with Fish, Hawk, and The Wheele...the two weeks before the Balboa Open were spent throwing horseshoes day and night. You could get in two or three games before class in the morning, after class we would play horseshoes well into the dark. We would play single matches, doubles matches, and solo practice rounds. We were playing so much horseshoes that we would need to replace the keg in the kegarator twice a week. I remember getting home from class and there would be dudes like Andy Paiko, Greg Kaminskis, Brent Munger, The G-Ride, Justin Tripp, Jimmy apRoberts, and Chris Fargo all in the backyard drinking keg beer...and not even one of the other guys that lived at The Balboa would be home. We would count ringers, stacks, double stacks...it was in this era that the phrase "After school stack practice" was coined. It was the era when Josh Fisher was hands down the best player in horseshoes...it was 1999 and Bill Clinton was still in office and you could still get 12 packs of bud light for $3.99 on sale.......10 years later we are all still doing the same shit, all over the state, with way more cash than we had back then......I am looking forward to pushing the vibe and partying hard at the 10th annual Balboa Open Horseshoe Championship...see everyone soon!
