The Old Bull Backyard Revival
In preparation for the 12th annual Balboa Open the core of the Association leadership gathered in Northern California for a day of horseshoe pitching, beer drinking and good old fashioned family fun.
Many of the premiere players were in attendance and the ringers fell one after another. After the electrifying day of horseshoes, it is my opinion that the Old Bulls will again dominate the Balboa Open.
Highlights include the outstanding play of Chris Fargo who tossed eight ringers in his first game – Fargo is peeking at the right time and is poised to make his first run at Epic Glory. Fargo’s longtime partner, Josh Fisher, is throwing the best shoes of his storied career. Fisher and Fargo throw a complimentary style of horseshoes that will be difficult to overcome on game day.
The Blues Brothers, a Balboa Open tradition, threw exceptionally well. However, make no mistake that the Blues Brothers beat you between games just as badly as they beat you during games. Doug Hawkins and Cameron Hagans are masters on leveraging the compliance standards of the Balboa Open to a competitive advantage over every team in the tournament.
The Backyard Revival, however, was stolen by the exhibition pairing of Greg Kaminskis and Chris Mohler. Mohler/Kaminskis finished the day a perfect 9-0. Both competitors appeared relaxed and ready for the upcoming Balboa Open. Speculation was flying about a potential pairing for the Open as neither competitor has officially announced whom they will be teaming up with. It has been rumored that Mohler will be pairing up with soon to be brother in law Lee Drake. If Mohler is paring up with Lee Drake it makes sense that Kaminskis will be again his longtime partner Callie Mohler for another run at a championship. Because of these rumors many are assuming Mohler’s longtime partner Andy Paiko will not make it down for the 12th Balboa Open. Paiko has played in every tournament except for two.
