While anybody who was anybody was on this film, well almost, the only TAGS actor on it was Bernard Fox. Apparently the recently late Richard Dawson was on it as well.
Interesting thing is that Charleton Heston was passed over for John Wayne's eventual character. The more interesting thing is that while most of the other actors were paid $25,000. Wayne demanded $250,000.00. Apparently because Daryl Zanuck, one of The Longest Day's directors, ticked John Wayne off when Zanuck made light of Wayne's production of the, then, box office failure, "Alamo". Waynes apperances are quite short and few in this film.
Many heroes of the Normandy Invasion were cast in supporting roles.
Eisenhower was considered for playing himself, but they didn't think they could make him look like his younger self.
