I believe I would not even be around then - in more ways than one.
And the pure joy and laughter and remembrances of Mayberry.
Andy Griffith, wallowing in a hardly-successful Broadway play of Destry told his agent he wanted to try television. He met with Sheldon Leonard and was told about an idea about a widower sheriff, justice of the peace, and paper editor in a small southern town. Andy didn't like the premise at first, but he did like Sheldon, so he decided to give it a try.
Boy oh Boy weren't we lucky?
I thought of this quote from the movie A Prairie Home Companion upon hearing of Andy's passing on my car radio about 1 o'clock:
"The death of an old man is not a tragedy.
Forgive him his shortcomings, and thank him for all his love and care."
We appreciate all the love and care you gave us, Mr. Griffith.
