Here is Grandpa Sam Petrie (Will Wright) reading bedtime storis to young Ritchie. Old "Mr. Weaver" was a pleasant sort of fellow when he got away from the store.
The Petrie's had a party for Rob's co-workers, Buddy and Pickles Sorrell. They brought a gift for little Ritchie... chocolate cigarettes! I remembered the candied kind, but only saw chocolate cigars when I was a kid.
Not to mention that Ritchie is packin' a six shooter with bullets on the belt. And on NATIONAL TV>>>> GASP!
A couple things you won't see on current TV.
The story goes that Kent cigarettes were sponsors for a time. Kent passed out cartons to all the Dick Van Dyke stars and crew at each filming. Those that didn't smoke gave theirs to Mary Tyler Moore. Since she couldn't stand Kents, Moore took hers to a local cigarette store and traded them in for her brand!
Curious.
Rob usually slides his buckle over to the side like this. Was this the style back in '61?
