About a month ago, I picked up a used blu-ray of John Wayne's "The Big Trail" (1930) at the local FYE for around $2. I had always dismissed this early Wayne western since it was made so early, 9 years before the breakthrough "Stagecoach", and I wasn't the biggest fan of "Stagecoach". I was wrong though. I finally got around to watching "The Big Trail" today and I thought it was just great. Much better than expected and John Wayne was very youthful and vibrant. Very well a must see film. The "grandeur" widescreen version is just amazing for a 1930 film. The "making of" special feature gives a new appreciation of the scope of what went into the making of this film. If you ever hesitated about watching or adding this film to your western collection, don't, it is well worth it!
