Season 2 Review!
Worked my way through the Season 2 Doris Day Show set. I expected to watch 3 or 4 episodes and be tired of it by then but I was surprised. I have enjoyed the show much more. I think my biggest gripe with the entire series is the fact of the changing format through the years. I enjoy the sitcom/family aspect of the show the most which is the entire premise for Season 1. Season 2 jumps back and forth between the family at the ranch home and the co-workers at the city office building. This is a bit awkward but still enjoyable. The cast is excellent and funny! McLean Stevenson, Rose Marie and Paul Smith all have great chemistry together so it seems to work pretty well. As the season moves past the halfway point, some of the episodes got a little far-fetched and silly. Enjoyed the early ones more and still like the family oriented episodes the best. Stand outs would be: A Frog Called Harold, Married For A Day, The Chocolate Bar War, Singles Only & A Two-Family Christmas. Reading up on Season 3, the premise moves in another direction. Denver Pyle only appears in 2 episodes as Doris's father Buck as she moves to a city apartment. She still has the two boys though maintaining a family atmosphere to some degree. It would be interesting to see how Season 3 goes. Seasons 4 & 5 drop the family entirely! I guess Doris was going for a Mary Tyler Moore look? Probably wouldn't buy those.
