Re: The Return of Doctor X (1939)
Ok Al, the set I ordered arrived earlier this week. I watched "Doctor X" but I think I need to give it a second watch. It may have been too late at night for my mind! I seemed to have difficulty following the plot line as there seemed to be a lot going on! It was interesting and the color was striking. The whole two-color technicolor process was interesting as I did a little reading up on it. Definitely gave the film a unique look which worked well for the horror aspect and the interiors. The only scenes where it seemed out of place or noticeably off kilter were the beach scenes. I enjoyed the climax of the film and didn't mind the comedy aspects in between but the reporter was a little overboard on it. Loved Fay Wray! Synthetic Skin. Where did they come up with that! I will watch "Return Of Doctor X" soon. It doesn't seem to fair too well with critics and reviewers. BTW, have you seen "Mystery Of The Wax Museum"? which was another 2 color Technicolor feature. I think we have breifly touched on this film in the past...being the forerunner to "House Of Wax" (1953).
