Keyless Remote Programming

Hello...does anyone know the magical process of programming a keyless remote for a 98 Discovery? I've heard rumors that you can program up to 2 remotes yourself, and then after that, they need to be set thru diagnostic. If anyone could solve this mystery for me...I would be soooo grateful! Thanks!
