95 discovery 90K

I recently purchaed a 1995 Discovery. I am pretty sure the transmisson is shot. It is at a transmission shop now. I am in limbo as to what i shold do. They tell me it will cost $900.00 to uninstall/install the transmission. either with a rebuilt/remanufact that cost$1500. Should i purchase a used one? Can i trust the people online to sell me what they say are low mileage trans from wrecked cars? for around $500-$700? Anyone had t make this decision? Please help.
