I would start by doing a compression check on the engine. Then I would check for a good spark - you should be able to get nearly a half inch spark when you crank the engine and hold a plug wire near to the engine block. A weak spark will not fire the plugs properly. A weak spark can be caused by a bad ignition module, the coil, the HT leads including the lead from the coil to the dizzy, the dizzy cap and the ROTOR! I just spent the day diagnosing a poor spark in a RR. Turned out it had a bad or the wrong rotor!
Good Luck!
: I have a 1995 land rover discovery with a 3.9
: engine. It will not start half the time.It
: keeps fouling spark plugs. And we have to
: change the oil because we are getting fuel
: in the oil trying to start it after so many
: times.We have changed the
: injectors,dis.cap,mass air flow
: meter,starter,and a lot of spark plugs.When
: it does start it is chugging and sounds very
: rough. Then it dies and will not start. So you
: can not drive it any where because it will
: not go very far and will not start again. We
: thought we had bad fuel. Then we had the fuel
: pressure checked.It was fine.The person we
: bought it from put a water pump on it.We
: have only driven it a couple of months
: before this started happening. And now it has
: been parked over a year.I can not find
: anyone who can repair landrovers. The dealer
: is over 100 miles away. Please help if you
: can tell what to try next.Or if you had this
: problem and what you had to do.thanks.
