transmission temp light

hello i am new to the land rover world previously owned bmw's. anyhow i bought a 2000 disco II and i seem to have a intermitten trans temp light.sometimes its on then goes off or flikers for a few then either stays on or goes off again anyone got any ideas? disco drives fine shifts good(automatic) no noise. any help would be appreciated.
