2002 RangeRover - Navigation Issues

The navigation on my '02 RR has malfunctioned, leaving with me a blank green screen and a radio without volume controls. The dealer tells me it's the navigation control unit in the back and replacement is necesary. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Could this just be loose connections? Advise for a low-cost replacement? Any help would be greatly appreciated
