98 Disco Check Engine light

I bought a used 98 Disco and have had many problems.
The thermostat started moving recently, it would go up toward hot but then it would go back to normal after 2 seconds. I was told that the thermostat was bad, and had it replaced. After a month it started moving again and now the check engine light has come on. Please help!
