gear box fault

I left my 1996 RR at the muffler shop two weeks ago and when I returned my Range Rover would not move. The machanic told me he didn't do anything but put the truck in neutral and let it roll backwards about 15'. Now when I start the engine and sellect a drive gear, it doesn't move. It's seems like stuck in neutral regardless of my sellection. It has a code Gear Box Fault. Someone told me it could be the speed sensor.
