Radiator

I was driving into work when I looked at the dash of my 93 RR County LWB. My temps were pegged and I stopped the car immediately. After I got out, the radiator fluid was leaking. Further inspection revealed that the belt from the fan/radiator pump/ac pump was severed. My question: will the radiator overheat to a point where it will utilize a relief valve? I'm trying to determine if my radiator is shot prior to replacing the belts.
